How many of us look to other people for contentment? Once we see them , we relax. We breath a sigh of relief and and start telling them what happened while they were gone.
Do we breath a sign of relief when we open God's Word? How many of us relax when we pray?
God is our protector. Psalm 32:7
He is our provision. Matthew 6:25-34
He is our hope. 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17
He is our joy. Psalm 16:11
He is our comfort. Psalm 94:19
He is our contentment. 1 Timothy 6:6
He is greater and more powerful than any person we could know. And yet, when we are hurting we turn to those who we think can help.
Our time in the Word should be the most important time of our day. It should be a guarded priority and a joy to do.
Last week I had an afternoon free and I had two options. Take a nap or do my devotions. I grabbed a friend, went to a coffee shop, and spent the next two hours in the Word. When I stood to return to my house, I felt rested. I was amazed by how much energy I had and how good I felt physically. (Although the coffee may have helped.)
That time in the Word refreshed me.
When was the last time you were refreshed from your time spent on God's Word? How recently did you spend quality time with God?
