You did read the title correctly. Trust me, this will all make sense by the end.
Ostriches, in my opinion, could be qualified as the 8th wonder of the world. They have wings, but they can’t fly. And yes, I’ve listened to the science behind it, but I still think them weird birds. (Penguins are a different matter entirely. They are actually cute and they use their wings for swimming.)
But anyway, back from the rabbit trail.
Ostriches are known for sticking their heads in the sand when trouble comes by. They can actually defend themselves with their strong legs, but we stereotype them into the cowards we think them to be.
Are you an ostrich?
I’m not asking if you’re disproportionate, have useless wings, and legs too long for your body. I’m asking if you stick your head in the sand when trouble comes by. Do you ostracize yourself and become a coward? (Sorry, I couldn’t help the pun.)
I, at times, am an ostrich. I would rather let the adults handle it and not make me be mature.
BUT! Drumroll, please!
God doesn’t call us to be ostriches.
He calls us to be shining lights on a hill, a city that cannot be hidden. He tells us to be stewards of the earth and glorify Him in every aspect of our lives. He does not call us to stick our heads in the sand and let the trouble pass us. He is our Heavenly Father and the King, the Warrior of Heaven. He will protect us and never let us fall from His hand.
So if you’re just sitting back and letting the trouble go by, if you’re scared of God’s command, if you’re being a cowardly Christian in your circle-
Follow God with all your heart and don’t be an ostrich.
{I know, I know. I promised you guys a short story. I’m still working on it and plan on posting it late next week. But this was laid on my heart and I wanted to post this before I lost my enthusiasm. Please let me know what you think in the comments!}
This was a great message! All too often we are tempted to be ostriches, but God hasn't called us to be ostriches. Thanks for this!
