To Suicide and Grief: 2 poems

To Suicide:

Dear Suicide,

You’ve stolen a person

From me yet again.

You’ve played with others,

And left them behind.

You lie and say that no one cares,

Yet tears prove otherwise.

Fathers, mothers,

Sisters, brothers,

All left someone who,

Grieves and cries,

With their absence.

So I’m done listening

Done with the lies.

You aren’t the answer.

To Grief:

You sure are a funny beast,

With tentacles grabbing

Every happy memory,

Tainting, breaking, and overtaking.

You steal the joy and light in life,

Just for something to do.

You make days gray

And nights endlessly long.

You stay with us

For all our lives

A leech drawing our happiness.

But with time, you fade,

Although you’re always there,

Lingering in the background,

Waiting to pounce,

When a memory or object

Triggers remembrance.

You teach the value of people,

Show what their absence does.

You illuminate the meaning in relationships.

As a few of you know, I lost a friend last month to suicide. He is gone much to soon and the world is darker because he's not in it. Please keep his family and friends in your prayers as they grieve.
